General Information

The GAN RS is a descendant of the Pinarello Dogma F8. The ride, the aerodynamics, the tubing profiles are all based on that Tour de France-crushing bike. The RS is a brother to the GAN and the GAN S. It shares not only a name, but a geometry with those bikes.

The difference between the GANs is the carbon-fiber plies used to produce the frame. for the RS, Pinarello relies heavily upon Torayca T900 cloth.

The frame, which is a smoking fast race-proven design, learned how to go fast from the F8. Pinarello sculpted the frame tubes to separate the wind with minimal turbulence. You can see it in the extended head tube the way it is less than round in front of the bike, the way the fork crown nestles in a notch in the down tube, the aero fork legs, the FlatBack down and seat tubes and the shorter, lower seat stays. The shaping also owes to the need to make the bike stiff and comfortable. A problem with traditional airfoil tube shaping is that they make a bike vertically stiff and laterally compliant, the reverse of what people need. By shortening the profile of the down and seat tubes, they still have vertical give. And by cutting the tubes off at their wide point, there is still plenty of lateral stiffness to fight pedal forces. And this is before we get into Pinarello’s traditional asymmetric tube designs, where they have already built in resisting pedaling forces, with shaping and ply placement reflecting the reality that the right side of the frame gets stressed differently because the drivetrain is on that side.

The seatpost, which comes with the frame, also features the FlatBack profile, making it more compliant than traditional aero seatposts, and taking advantage of a seat clamp that sits flush with the frame.

The F8 has a geometry built for light, super flexible riders. The GAN is built for the rest of us. They feature a similar position, just with more stack and less reach: it’s easy to get comfortable and feel powerful on the GAN thanks to the fact your bars don’t have to be so low. Basically, the big difference is a shorter top tube and higher head tube. Seat angles, when comparing the F8 to the GAN are basically the same, as is the bottom bracket drop, a stable 72mm in most sizes, the fork rake, 43mm. The GAN has an extra 2mm of chainstay length in most sizes, meaning you have room to squeeze in some slightly bigger tires.

The GAN also boasts many of the cool design extras of the F8. tapered 1 1/8” to 1 ½” steered. Aero stem and seatpost. Think2 internal cable routing—which works with mechanical, electronic, or hydraulic systems. If you go the electronic route, the battery goes in the seatpost, though you’ll need an accessory adapter if your bike doesn’t come with electronic shifting. The bottom bracket is the reliable Italian threaded standard—easy for servicing. The max tire width guaranteed to fit is 25mm, which means you can probably squeeze some fatter rubber in there, just Pinarello makes no promises. And the frame is UCI-approved, in case your new bike leads you to crush your local pro and the slaying thereof earns you a ticket to the big leagues, but not enough to merit a new bike.

The Pinarello GAN RS is an easy way to go faster. That it’s so stylish is a bonus.
