The Quintana Roo PRfive Ultegra bike is the easiest way to enjoy the aerodynamics and light weight of the PR series. The complete bike comes race-ready and easy to travel with. And, when you’re finally deeply committed to racing, a simple wheel upgrade will give you the final edge you need to elbowing aside elite competitors.

The PRfive is, most simply, the PRsix with less expensive carbon, a conventional fork and stem. But that isn’t giving it enough credit. This single change makes the PR world too accessible to turn down. And if you don’t have a “normal” body, or are put off by proprietary stem designs, the Five is infinitely better than the Six.

The five has QR’s Shift+ downtube, which works for you in three ways. First is that the shape is slightly offset to move more air to the aerodynamically cleaner side of the bike, the left side. Second is the consistent distance between the front wheel and the downtube. Smaller bikes are often faster in straight headwinds because the trailing edge of the front wheel is closer to the leading edge of he downtube. Bigger bikes are often faster in crosswinds because that greater distance provides more of a sail effect. Here, QR keeps that distance fairly consistent, so both the smaller and larger sizes are excellent in both zero- and high-yaw scenarios. Third is that the downtube was designed with he assumption you’d be putting bottles there. The aero “cost” of the bottles is lower than the competition.

The aerodynamics continue with the leading edge absent left chainstay all the way to the flexibility of choosing between horizontal and vertical dropouts. Here, too, there are extra benefits. The tall left stay helps with drivetrain rigidity. The dropouts allow you to choose between easier wheel changes and perfecting rear wheel aerodynamics based on tire size. All told, the PRfive is one of the lightest framesets in its class, less than 2100g, which is more than 400g lighter than some of the competition.

The build is a savvy one with an eye on value. Shimano bar-end shifters tend Ultegra 6800 eleven-speed derailleurs, but that’s the limit of Ultegra. The cassette is a Shimano 105 11-28 eleven-speed, paired up with a tri-specific Vision Trimax crank sporting 52/36 rings. Shimano’s 105 group also provides the direct mount brake. The brakes are great, but if you prefer another direct mount, or a more traditional center-mount, you can upgrade at a later time. Even the hydraulic-hosed Maguras will work. Wheels are the rock solid Shimano RS-11’s.

Where Quintana Roo really distinguishes their builds are with the tri’ friendly bars and saddle. Profile’s Ozero base bars and T4+ extensions are light, flexible, and smart. The ISM PS 1.0 saddle is the kind of bottom cushion many turn to after they buy their bike. Here, it’s standard equipment.

QR wants this bike to fit everyone. Thanks to the conventional 1 1/8” stem, and the sliding saddle clamp that provides you with an effective 77- to 83-degree seat angle, the super fit and flexible, and the stiff noob can find a position that is comfy and fast.
