Product Description

Framesets are more than just an assemblage of materials manipulated into a rideable shape. It’s an expression, and it’s one you need to fall for, in order to ride it every day with the passion a bike deserves. Lightweight recognized that their Urgestalt frameset finished black on black didn’t appeal to everyone. So when they were improving the ride--a little more compliance in the rear end, a little more in the seatpost--added the Weiss (White) Edition. Now this highly-engineered assemblage of materials manipulated into a rideable shape that’s amazing in so many ways has all colors of the spectrum hidden in the streaks of white, which animate the work.

The name itself means "original form" which could refer to the origins of the company or that this will become the groundwork for the frames that follow.

As befitting the company name, the frame is 890g in a 55, building into a frameset that weighs 1440g, including fork, headset, seat post, clamp, and embedded aluminum chain plate in the right chain stay. The paint adds about 100g to the weight. Since they know noodles don't handle well and rigidity is the key to efficiency, this bike is stiff. The steerer is a 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" taper so that the front end tracks well whether in the saddle or out, going fast or slow. The BB86 bottom bracket shell gives them an oversized central element that is easy to build wide and strong and light. The slightly ovalized seat post is aero and stiff and comfortable, and with the binding mechanism hidden under the top tube, it's also hidden from the wind.

Because they understand that a small person puts different demands on a frame that a tall one, each frame size gets its own size-specific lay-up, so no frame is under-built, nor over-built.

When they looked at the attributes that are both very much Lightweight and very much what riders need, they settled on a design that has a racy front end, race-oriented stiffness, but a geometry that favors stability and efficiency, making this great for high speeds, long rides, rough roads, aka anything that you might find. It easily fits 25mm tires, and can work with some tires that are marked larger. The bike is stiff, but also gives real-world comfort, knowing that the key to riding fast for a long time is feeling good.

Because they know that what you might want to put on your Urgestalt is as vast as the roads available for travel, the frame is pretty flexible in terms of how you want to build it. Cables run internally and the same runs can be used by mechanical cables, electronic wires, and hydraulic lines. Batteries can run externally, but the seat post is designed to work with internal batteries. The seat post itself is 280mm long (350mm on the 60cm) has 22mm of setback and comes with three sets of hardware, for standard rails, oversized rails, and Selle Italia Monolink posts. If that puts you too far back, a 0mm offset post is available.

The Lightweight Urgestalt Weiss is the evolution of a new direction in frame-building.
