Product Description

Colnago's C29 Italia got to the top fast. Debuting in 2012 at the Italian National Championships, it won the first race it ever started. Not only made in Italy, but proven in Italy as well. And quickly went on to two world championship victories. This 29er is fast, obviously.

It's also light without any compromises to strength and durability. 1150g for the frame. Colnago considers this with all their bikes. They won't shave grams if they think they're reducing structural integrity; light, but not any lighter than safe. Part of what contributes to the frame's strength is the tube-to-tube construction. Frame tubes are created with stainless steel inner and outer molds, and the lugs, including the one-piece head tube, are created in the same manner and then bonded together. They're able to maximize strength, reduce weight, fine-tune ride qualities this way. The head tube, because of the changes in tube shapes, is different for each size frame produced. The top and down tubes have flattened hexagonal shapes that are unique to each position but work toward the same end, allowing for vertical compliance while maximizing lateral rigidity. The 31.6mm seat tube works with a 31.6mm round post to maximize rigidity. The squared stays also work toward the goal of allowing plenty of clearance as well as vertical compliance. And tuning the ride to perfection meant employing eight different types of carbon-fiber in the construction.

The head tube is designed to accept a 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" tapered steerer fork. Any 100-140mm travel will work, though 120mm is what's most commonly seen, as this is a cross-country rig to the core. Colnago includes their proprietary headset with the frame, as they're skeptical of other designs. Their semi-internal system is light and durable and replaceable, but also made to give in extreme crashes, saving your frame the price of a headset.

Also in a nod toward both durability and ease of finding equipment, the bottom bracket is English-threaded.

The frame nestles the rear 140mm-rotor-specific post mounts between the stays for strength as well as to make it easier to affect quick wheel changes with a standard quick release and 135mm spacing.

The Colnago C29 Italia brings Colnago's legendary ride to big MTB wheels.
